Beyonce Poised to Add to Grammy Total
Posted on Sunday, January 31, 2010Comments (6)Join The Discussion

Besides being one of the most popular singers on the planet, Beyonce has gotten plenty of accolades over her career. Now a veteran, she’s won a caseload of Grammys for her solo work and also with Destiny’s Child.

What she hasn’t won, however, is the prestigious album of the year trophy, despite being nominated once before. That may change on Sunday. The superstar is nominated for a leading 10 Grammys, including record of the year for “Halo,” song of the year for her anthem “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and album of the year for her multiplatinum third CD, “I Am … Sasha Fierce.”

Of course, she faces tough competition — especially from two newer divas.

    More after the cut…

Beyoncé, Usher, and Taylor Swift might just end up on Quincy Jones’ forthcoming remake of “We Are The World”. While an official list of names taking part in the recording Monday has not been revealed, sources say the trio, along with John Legend and Natalie Cole could be making contributions to the song. Released in 1985, “We Are The World” featured Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, and Diana Ross, among others. Proceeds from the forthcoming version will go towards Haiti relief efforts.

    Melanie Fiona on Beyoncé
Posted on Thursday, January 28, 2010Comments (4)Join The Discussion

Melanie Fiona still cries when she thinks about her ex-boyfriend. He is the main reference in her R&B smash, the haunting ballad It Kills Me”  “I hope he’s happy,” Fiona said with a laugh in a recent interview. The tune, which has spent its fifth consecutive week on top of Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart, is up for best female R&B vocal performance at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. Though other nominees include Jazmine Sullivan, Ledisi and Lalah Hathaway — it’s Beyonce’s rousing anthem “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” that will be Fiona’s top competitor. “Single Ladies” is also up for song of the year. “I could say, ‘You know what, yeah, she’s going to win.’ And also at the same time, I could be like, ‘I had no idea I’d be Grammy-nominated,’” Fiona said. “If I don’t win the Grammy, that’s OK ’cause the company I’m in feels like a Grammy (win) already. And that’s Beyonce — like I have to pay a lot more dues before I get to Beyonce’s status,” she added.
