Twitter users fired off a record number of tweets per second following the announcement by pop diva Beyoncé at the MTV Video Music Awards that she is expecting a baby.

“Beyoncé’s big MTV #VMA moment gave Twitter a record bump: 8,868 Tweets per second,” the San Francisco-based real-time messaging service said in a statement on its @TwitterGlobalPR feed. The spike in Twitter activity came after Beyoncé showed off a noticeable bulge following a performance at the award ceremony.

The previous record for tweets per second was 7,196 at the final whistle of Japan’s thrilling upset win over the United States in the women’s World Cup final in July. Another football match is next in terms of the highest number of tweets per second ever sent: Brazil’s shock loss to Paraguay in the Copa America. Twitter users sent 7,166 tweets per second at the conclusion of that match.

The world will have to wait a while longer to see Beyonce in the new film ‘A Star Is Born’ as filming has been postponed because she is expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z. Filming was scheduled to start in February 2012, with Clint Eastwood at the helm, but now insiders have told Deadline that Warner Bros are looking to “push” back the start date.

They are also on the hunt for a new leading man after Eastwood has failed to lure Leonardo DiCaprio into the cast. Beyonce has previously spoken of her excitement playing the role that was previously played by Barbara Streisand in 1976, Judy Garland in 1954 and Janet Gaynor in the 1937 original.

Last night Beyonce announced that she’s having a baby! At the red carpet she was proudly showing her baby bump.

Only a short time after it was revealed that Beyonce and her hubby Jay-Z are pregnant with their first child, the singing sensation took the stage of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards to perform her upbeat ditty ‘Love On Top.’

Beyoncé, who instructed girls to run the world with her VMA-nominated smash song, will now run the stage at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

The “Run the World (Girls)” singer, who has three nominations this year (including Best Female Video, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography) and is the previous recipient of nine Moonmen, including 2009′s Video of the Year award for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” will join the lineup of 2011 VMA performers, which already includes Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Young the Giant, Pitbull and Ne-Yo. Jessie J will serve as a house artist for the ceremony.

“We are thrilled to have Beyoncé return to her rightful musical home at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards,” said Amy Doyle, executive producer of the 2011 MTV VMAs and MTV’s EVP of Music & Talent, in a statement. “Her performances at the VMAs are legendary — leaving everyone breathless and talking for days. We can’t wait to see her set the stage on fire once again!”

Beyoncé will perform at the upcoming Michael Jackson tribute concert via a satellite link-up. The ‘Sweet Dreams’ singer has been confirmed to be taking part in the ‘Michael Forever Tribute’ event, which will take place on October 8 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

She will perform a cover of a Jackson 5 track during the gig, though it has yet to be revealed whether the performance will be live or pre-recorded.

“A unique, never-before-seen performance by Beyoncé of one of her favourite Jackson 5 songs will be shown at the concert,” the event’s Facebook page revealed. “A lifelong Michael fan, Beyoncé really wanted to be involved in this tribute concert. Due to scheduling issues she can’t be there in person, but this performance is not to be missed.”

Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, JLS and Cee Lo Green are among the previously mentioned artists that will appear at the concert. Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Craig David and Smokey Robinson will also perform.

Not to be overshadowed by his more famous wife, Brady – who signed a four-year, $72 million contract extension in September with the New England Patriots, NFL’s richest deal on an annual basis – brought home another $31 million, putting the couple’s combined annual earnings at $76 million.

Music’s most powerful couple, Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z hauled in some $72 million over the past year, making them No. 2 on our list.
